History:
Tai was raised by his Grandfather, Akira Watanabe, after he lost his parents when he was four. At his Grandpa's side, he learned kndo, karate and the funamentals of Bushido. His best friend is Rex Hart and he joined in Tai's training by default. Tai is of mixed race, with his mother being the daughter of Japanese immigrants and his father the son of Irish immigrants. He's also quite wealthy but he never really mentions this fact. He's tall, awkward and often tongue-tied around girls. Despite his physical prowess he was always the gawky beanpole kid. he had few friends besides Rex though he got along with most people. However, he does not suffer stupidity from anyone. He's quiet, serious and intellegent. He takes times to think things through but he also can make the tough decisions in a crunch. He never expected to become a Power Ranger. But Once he did, he never shirked a duty of leadership as everyone kept instictually looking to him for the deciscion making.

He's also adept at reading and assessing people and situations. He eventually learns his teammates' strengths and weaknesses and makes plans according to their strengths while making arrangements to help them overcome their weaknesses, especially in training. His personality and skills made him an ideal General when he became the Dark Tyrant Ranger. Instead of dwelling on the things he did as an evil Ranger, he instead used the opportunity to face his own weaknesses and better himself. He successfully led the team to victory against Riti and Rio Revile and began to make preparations for the return of Roki and Widow.

History:
Lani was born in Hawaii to her native mother and Korean-American father. She has three older brothers. Her father is a martial arts fantatic, but also embraces his ancestral culture. Along with training his children in Korean martial arts such as Judo and Tae Kwan Do, he also demanded they learn traditional musical instruments. Before the job that brought her family to Angel Grove in her freshman year, she took up drumming. She's also a fan of Korean dramas.

When she moved to Angel Grove, she made fast friends in Manny and Holly, and joined Nathan's band as a drummer. She also became an admirer of Tai. Her father was also a fan and they would attend kendo matches together. Neither of them realized that he was the grandson of a famous sword-smith. When she became a Power Ranger, she finally got to hook up with her long time crush.
